New & Noteworthy

Through the support of generous foundation donors, parents and faculty, global health advocate Dr. Paul Farmer recently addressed 1500 students from New Albany and other area schools. Dr. Farmer spoke about his work with the Haitian people living in the devastation of the 2010 earthquake and also accepted a contribution on behalf of the Zanmi Beni Orphanage that resulted from the efforts of New Albany students and community donors.

A Remarkable Evening

Each November Abigail and Leslie Wexner host at their residence A Remarkable Evening, an annual benefit for the New Albany Community Foundation. The event has featured renowned authors, historians and artists including Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winners David McCullough, John Irving, Wendy Wasserstein, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Michael Beschloss, James Bradley and Walter Isaacson.

This year’s guest speaker was the former secretary of state and national security advisor, Condoleezza Rice. The evening was a sellout and raised more than $1 million to benefit the grantmaking of the foundation.  Proceeds will be invested back into the community in four strategic areas of impact including education, arts and culture, health and wellness and the environment.

The foundation gratefully acknowledges the companies, foundations and individuals who contributed to the success of the 2011 Remarkable Evening and the student lecture that occurred during Dr. Rice's visit to New Albany.
