New & Noteworthy


Through the support of generous foundation donors, parents and faculty, global health advocate Dr. Paul Farmer recently addressed 1500 students from New Albany and other area schools. Dr. Farmer spoke about his work with the Haitian people living in the devastation of the 2010 earthquake and also accepted a contribution on behalf of the Zanmi Beni Orphanage that resulted from the efforts of New Albany students and community donors.



New Albany-Plain Local Environmental Science Program
$1000 grant in honor of Diane Nye who completed her service on the New Albany Community Foundation Board of Trustees. Diane has been a strong advocate for the environment and for providing students of all socio-economic backgrounds with learning opportunities.

New Albany Arts Council
A grant for $7200 to underwrite rental fees for Arts Council productions in the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts.

New Albany Safety Town Program
$2000 grant from the New Albany Women’s Network Fund.

New Albany-Plain Local School District
$20,000 grant from the Carolyn & Lance White Fund in support of “New Albany Scholars” – an author residency and scholarship program founded by the White Family, with support from the PTO organizations and the New Albany Women’s Network.

Kids Here & There
A $21,000 grant to “Kids Here & There” to sponsor volunteerism to local charities by New Albany students with the sponsorship money going to Zambia, Africa to help fund much needed nurses.

New Albany-Plain Local School District Environmental Science Program
Grants totaling $67,000 to install and program the “Easton-OSU STEM & Nature Center in the school district’s Nature Preserve to support environmental and STEM studies for students from New Albany and 16 other Central Ohio school districts through the Sustainable Earth/William H. Resch Fund.

New Albany-Plain Local Schools
$27,000 for New Albany Scholars author residency program made possible through contributions from the Carolyn & Lance White Endowment Fund, the New Albany PTO organizations and the New Albany Women’s Network.

New Albany High School
A grant in support of bringing Former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice, to the McCoy Center for a student lecture with support from Ruscilli Construction

New Albany Schools Environmental Science Program
$10,000 for Renewable Energy student projects in honor of former American Electric Power CEO, Mike Morris

New Albany Arts Council
$10,000 for the sponsorship of the Junior Broadway Musical Series presentation of “State Fair” in honor of Tiney McComb

New Albany Symphony Orchestra
$10,000 for Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts rental fees;

New Albany Ballet Theater
$5,000 for McCoy Center rental fees for the presentation of the “Nutcracker”.

New Albany Children's Choir
$800 from the Helena McComb Memorial Fund.

New Albany-Plain Local Schools
$50,000 to New Albany-Plain Local Schools for “Benchmarking Excellence” initiative made possible through a $25,000 contribution from Corna Kokosing Construction

Columbus Children’s Choir
Grant to the Columbus Children’s Choir ($2500 from the Helena McComb Memorial Fund toward the New Albany “satellite” Choir).

New Albany-Plain Local School District
Grant for $175 from the Sustainable Earth fund to NAPLSD in support of a Rain Garden as requested by Bill Resch & 4th grade teacher, Pete Barnes.

New Albany Schools
Grant for books: author Clarence Jones: “Behind the Dream: the Making of the Speech that Transformed a Nation.” ($1,056)

New Albany Schools
$5000 from Carolyn & Lance White fund for New Albany Scholars Program (for K-1 author residency with Laura Vaccaro Seeger March 14-16);

New Albany Schools
$12,500 for Clarence Jones speaking fee through sponsorship from Abercrombie & Fitch.

New Albany Schools
$6000 from Carolyn & Lance White Fund for the New Albany Scholars Author Residency Program (for illustrator, Dave Diaz to NA Middle School on 12/9/2010) additional support came from NAWN & PTO Organizations
