
New Albany Library: over $1 million for the library book collections;
New Albany Classic Signature Series: The Foundation presents the Classic Signature series, including guest lecturers, the Homeless Family Foundation fundraiser as well as the concerts in the parks featuring the Columbus Symphony, Minan Dya and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, through a major gift from New Albany Company and a gift from McDonald Investments;
Village of New Albany: in partnership with the New Albany-Plain Local Joint Parks District, The New Albany Women’s Network, The New Albany Company and the Village of New Albany, the foundation is developing a $1 million park at Wexner Community Park. A grant of $152,000 for Eaglesnest Playground and Davis Commons is being made to the community through support from the Shelia S. Davis Fund and the Eaglesnest Playground Fund with support from The New Albany Women’s Network;
Plain Township Fire Department: $75,000 for a new EMS unit through the New Albany Surgical Hospital Fund;
Village of New Albany: $40,000 grant toward the planning of Rose Run Streamside Park in the heart of the Village Center District through the Rose Run Streamside Park Fund with support from an anonymous donor and a Wexner Family match;
Columbus Metropolitan Library New Albany Branch: $50,000 through a generous gift from Discover Financial Services Inc. for the library and to sponsor the return to New Albany of two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author, David McCullough, to help dedicate the new library and to serve as the featured speaker for the library’s Celebration of Learning fundraising event.
New Albany Police Department: grants totaling $31,750 to establish and support a Safety Town Program to promote the health, safety and welfare of pre-school children by presenting an annual two-week education program that includes bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, water safety, animal safety, poison safety and more. The grants were made possible through generous donations from founding corporate sponsor, Key Bank, and founding community sponsor, The New Albany Women’s Network;
Plain Township Fire Department: $4,000 to fund the training and equipment for two New Albany-Plain Township firefighters to be members of a disaster recovery force that could be dispatched within hours to respond to sites of extreme emergencies locally or statewide (terrorism and natural disasters) through the Hinson Family Trust;
Plain Township Fire Department: $2500 for child safety seat inspection training for fire fighters. Matched by the township;
New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society: $3200 for two historical markers to commemorate New Albany's founders and the platting of Plain Township through support from the Heischman Family and Bob Evans Farms;
New Albany Elementary School: $2500 for an intervention program for at-risk students moving from Kindergarten to first grade. Matched by the school district;
New Albany Elementary School: $1200 to host a speaker to raise funds to create a “Lending Library” with materials in areas including bullying, developing pro-social skills, friendship, advocacy and emotional intelligence;
New Albany Elementary School: A grant in 2002 from the New Albany Community Foundation established an elementary school newsletter created by special needs children. An additional grant of $500 was awarded in 2003 to continue the newsletter.
New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society: a grant in 2003 for $630.00 for the society to purchase a digital camera to take photographs of its museum collection items in order to catalogue each item.
New Albany Special Connections: a $2,000.00 grant to provide 6-hour workshop on Special Education Law and the Individual Education Program made available to over 280 families in and around New Albany who have children with special education needs as well as educators.
New Albany Arts Council: a $958.00 grant in support of Arts Council’s “Broadway, Jr. musicals” for “upper elementary and middle school” aged children. Over 200 area children have participated since the inception in 2000 of this program in which children star in productions such as Guys and Dolls, Bugsy Malone, The Music Man and Once On This Island. The grant will enable the Council to purchase two new Audio Technica 3000 Series Wireless lavalier mics.
New Albany High School: a $10,000.00 grant from the Roger Sahli Fund toward the “Thomas Jefferson Room.” The room will be part of the new high school expansion and will serve as a special venue for various activities, such as lectures, presentations and community gatherings. The room will be “finished” in a manner and detail consistent with the federal style and with era-appropriate furnishings.
New Albany Elementary School: $10,000.00 through the Ellen and David Ryan Fund to host residency opportunities for dance professionals to work with students to incorporate arts, music and movement into the ongoing curriculum to enrich academic opportunities permanently.
New Albany Elementary School: a $2,000.00 grant through a gift from the Sedluk family for materials that serve as additional resources for the gifted and talented program for K-5 students, including: math reasoning & problem-solving materials, reading & language arts materials, bibliotherapy resources, books and logic & mystery puzzles. The materials will be made available to students, parents and teachers for use both at school and at home.
New Albany Middle School: a $1,800.00 grant to establish the New Albany Adventure Trail in partnership with New Albany Schools, which is a series of “group challenge stations” on the learning campus. Each station will include a physical and mental task to complete. The trail will be available to students, teachers and the community and is designed to build community, challenge self-concepts, experience and outdoors and illustrate curricular concepts.
New Albany High School: a $500.00 grant to buy stone and carving tools needed for the third phase of a sculpture that the students are creating that will be displayed permanently in the “Peace Sculpture Garden” on the campus.
Columbus Metropolitan Library New Albany Branch: a $2000 grant to host traveling exhibit “SPEAK” - Children’s Book Illustrators brag about their dogs.
New Albany Elementary School: a grant of $1000 to develop “Puppet Players” – to purchase puppets and books to enhance reading strategies, script writing by planning, writing and performing plays they create, as well as other areas of study such as science and math.
New Albany Middle School: a grant of $800 through a gift from the Mr. & Mrs. Dean Swartz and Swartz Law Firm for “Mock Trial” program – the successful program in which students participate in Mock Trials to develop critical thinking, speaking, listening and reasoning skills as well as an appreciation of the judicial process, U.S. laws and history and etc.
New Albany High School: a grant of $489 for a buzzer for “In the KNOW” – an academic team competition between high schools.
Habitat for Humanity: a grant of $2500 from the New Albany Realty Association Fund.
Plain Township Fire Department: a grant of $2500 for a “smoke house” designed to teach youngsters fire safety techniques from the New Albany Realty Association.
New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society: $1800 for a new computer to catalogue historic items.
New Albany Arts Council: $1198.16 for wireless microphones to support the Jr. Broadway productions for middle and elementary school students.
New Albany Elementary School: $5000 from the Ellen & David Ryan Fund to support the “Artist in Residence” program which brings artists to the school to interact with the students. This program incorporates art forms with the curriculum.
New Albany Elementary School Library: $1000 for “Clicking Your Way to Mastery” a new technology that allows students to respond to questions and view the responses simultaneously, which enhances the teacher’s ability to assess learning more quickly and utilize additional teaching strategies.
New Albany Middle School Library: $2500 to partner in bringing author, Gordon Korman, to the Middle School to interact with students and teachers. Additionally, Mr. Korman will appear at a program open to the community at the library.
